Well I've been trying listening to music via cable direct from iPhone to speech processor. Works well, except
• pitch of singers is 'not right'
• percussion is good but overpowering, rhythm is correct
• harmony (Beach Boys) is cacophonous
I can watch movies and podcasts where there is speaking and that works very well. Hardly need subtitles. Lip reading probably helps with those Ive watched.
I wish the cable was cheaper!

Don't know if my tips will be of much help to you, since after looking around your blog it sounds like you're a CI old-timer who was reimplanted? I guess it couldn't hurt to tell you what I know!
ReplyDelete- While the processor cable gives good sound, I found that headphones gives a much better quality, and the nuances of music are easier to hear. I use Bose around-the-ear headphones.(NOT noise-cancelling, they don't use batteries) They cost about the same as the audio cable, but, to me, the difference in sound is SO worst the cost. (then again, I don't pay the bills!)
-I've also heard some people like MusicLinks better than the cable- it's also much cheaper. Google it, I think it's also on the Apple website if you look under accesibility or something like that.
-What brand CI do you have? I have Freedoms, and the music program definitely enhances music. Not sure about the other brands..
- sounds like you have no trouble undertanding the lyrics, but if you do, then I'd recommend getting that down so you can focus more on pitch.
Thanx for your comments
ReplyDeleteActually I have only had this CI for one year, just gone. Second implant coming up.
Thanx for the info re headphones etc - I'll keep trying whatever I can try. I have a freedom - only one - and I have no hearing on the other side [I mean nothing]. Maybe it'll be better with two. Only time will tell
At the moment the direct cable is the best in all regards, despite the pitfalls. I have a headphones set which I use and can pick up with audio loop [better than just listening]
Maybe I have to train myself...
Anyway - keep an eye on the blog, always updated. Have a look at deafintely too - he just got his first implant
